Choosing organic for a healthier diet without pesticides and fertilisers

Scholars have observed that switching to a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes and grains (such as the Mediterranean diet) from conventional agriculture increases the presence of pesticides in the body. However, the amount of pesticides is reduced by 91% if the foods listed above come from organic farming. Therefore, consuming organic products allows for a healthier diet for the body.

A Mediterranean diet based on conventional foods would result in a total pesticide intake nearly ten times higher than a Mediterranean diet composed primarily of organic foods. "There is growing evidence from observational studies that the health benefits of increased consumption of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are partially diminished by the increased pesticide exposure associated with these foods. Consumption of organic foods allows consumers to transition to a healthier, Mediterranean diet without increased pesticide intake."
