Vegetable materials for cars, new frontier of luxury

Many car manufacturers are saying goodbye to leather and are switching to natural, vegetable-derived or synthetic materials. From tweed to eco-leather, the new frontier of car upholstery is recycling and sustainability. At a time when the automotive industry seems determined to set a good example in terms of emissions and pollution, more and more manufacturers are focusing on natural and eco-sustainable materials and fabrics for the upholstery of their models, even the top ones.

The drive is more green than ever, as well as ethical. Not only in the production cycle, with efforts directed towards recycling and cutting emissions and environmental impact, but also with the gradual but inexorable replacement of materials of animal origin with synthetic or plant-derived ones. A trend that concerns not only generalist brands or those that have made sustainability their new claim, but also the most prestigious brands in the luxury sector.

There are several alternatives to leather and many more are being studied for all kinds of uses, from furniture and car upholstery to clothing and footwear.
