Italy will be the first European country to ban plastic cups and balloons

Europe will ban plastic plates, cutlery and straws by 2021, but Italy has decided to do even more, saying goodbye also to glasses and balloons. In fact, the Italian Parliament will go beyond what is required by the European Directive in terms of single-use plastics, adding in the proposed text an amendment that extends the abolition of disposable plastic also to these other two types of products.

In Italy alone, in fact, between 6 and 7 billion disposable plastic cups are consumed per year, that is between 16 and 20 million per day. Overall in the world plastic cups represent about 20 percent of marine waste. Balloons, on the other hand, are the third most dangerous waste for seals, turtles and seabirds. Consumption-related numbers show how important it is to replace these products with reusable alternatives. It is necessary to change our habits if we want to protect the Planet.
