World Cleanup Day 2020

Saturday, September 19, 2020 is the World cleanup day, a world day dedicated to cleaning the planet from the waste that is flooding it. It is the largest civic action the world has ever seen in which millions of people participate every year, united to achieve a single, important goal: a clean and healthy planet.

Due to the global health emergency due to the coronavirus pandemic, and the consequent need to organize events where it is possible to maintain social distancing to reduce contagions, this year two alternative ways to take part in the day were organized: individual activities and a digital cleanup.
In fact, 3.7% of global CO2 emissions are produced by the use of the internet. Some studies even estimate that within a decade the Internet will cause 20 percent of global emissions.
To participate in this digital edition is enough to clean up your phone, tablet or computer from apps, games and photos that are not used, without forgetting to also check your email, where there are hundreds of unread messages that continue to produce CO2. A study found that storing 1 gigabyte of email per year consumes 32.1 kilowatts, the same amount of energy that would be used if you kept the oven on for 10 hours.

Whatever the outcome of this year, what will really make a difference in the future is being aware of what you learn during the day and keeping the same good habits throughout the rest of the year. (source: lifegate.it)
